Red Star Belgrade has become a highly experienced team in advancing through the Champions League qualifying rounds. For the 2024/2025 season, they had to play a difficult tie against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, which they successfully advanced to. Following the format change, the Serbian super champions face a greater challenge in the 2025/2026 season, as they must overcome three qualifying rounds to reach the Champions League stage.
Red Star Belgrade had no trouble eliminating Gibraltar's Lincoln, thrashing them 5-1 in the Serbian capital. So far this season, winning by a landslide has become a positive habit for the Serbian champions. They are once again first in the Serbian Super League after three matches played, one of which saw them thrash OFK Beograd 7-1 and earlier win 4-0 against Javor. Also, after beating Lech Poznan 3-1 in Poland, they appear to have the current tie in the bag. Experienced Bosnian striker Krunic scored two goals, bringing his total to four this season.
Meanwhile, reigning Polish champions Lech Poznań didn't have the start they expected: they thrashed a modest Icelandic club in the Champions League qualifying round but got off to a poor start, losing the Polish Super Cup, and are currently ninth in the Polish league.
