Leylah Annie Fernandez of Canada will go for a semifinal spot at the 2025 Japan Open against Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia on Friday in Osaka, Japan.

Fernandez is booked at -250 moneyline, but the +195 underdog Sramkova has beaten the Canadian almost two months ago at the Monterrey Open.

The Canadian won 79 percent of her first serves to hold 100 percent of her service games while breaking Galfi twice to secure an easy win on Thursday. With the victory, Fernandez is set to play in her fourth quarterfinal match this year.

Sramkova also advanced to the final eight after hacking out a three-set victory over American Ann Li 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Sramkova conceded only one service game and captured three key breakpoint conversions, including a crucial break in the sixth game of the third set allowed her to pull away from Li. Sramkova improved to 13-16 on the hard court and 22-26 overall in 2025.
