Iga Swiatek of Poland will try to make a statement on Monday as she battles Rebecca Sramkova of Serbia in the first-round of the 2025 French Open.
Swiatek’s quest for a fifth French Open title will be put under the microscope this year after failing to win any tournament during the clay-court swing of the WTA Tour. After being a dominant force on the red dirt in past 4-5 years, Swiatek’s aura of invincibility has gradually faded away with each loss she suffered this year. Swiatek lost to her waterloo Jelena Ostapenko 3-6 6-3 2-6 at Stuttgart, Coco Gauff 1-6, 1-6 in Madrid, and Danielle Rose Collins 1-6, 7-5 in Rome.
Sramkova is 3-2 on clay this year as she failed to go beyond the second round of every major tournament slate during this clay-court season. In her final tournament before the French Open in nearby Strasbourg, Sramkova bowed to Magda Linette 4-6, 3-6 in the second round after conceding 4 service breaks.
