Real Salt Lake host Atlético San Luis on August 2 at America First Field, with both clubs in vastly different form entering their second Leagues Cup match. RSL are riding a seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions, including a dramatic 2-2 draw against Club América on Wednesday, followed by a 3-1 shootout win.
The result extended Salt Lake’s recent hot streak, which includes five wins in their last six matches. Their July form has propelled them into the top four of the MLS Western Conference, and they’ve remained dominant at home, unbeaten in their last five in Utah.
Atlético San Luis, on the other hand, are struggling. Last Wednesday, they lost 4-0 to the Portland Timbers in the Leagues Cup opener. The game exposed crucial defensive flaws and came on the heels of consecutive losses in the Liga MX to Monterrey and Chivas.
In the previous three games following a promising opening-day win in the Apertura competition, San Luis have conceded 11 times. Their newly installed manager Guillermo Abascal hasn't been able to calm the team down yet and is coming under increasing pressure. San Luis are still on zero points and only winning will give them the chance of further progress.
RSL, on the other hand, will be able to guarantee progression with a win and will be the favorite on home field, all the more so considering the fact it is at altitude, where they've been difficult to beat.
