by Bradley Gibbs in Club World Cup Picks
The FIFA Club World Cup is now starting to get very interesting. Only eight teams remain in the competition. The quarter finals begin on Friday, when Fluminese and Al Hilal will be the first teams to play for a spot in the final four. Finishing things up on Saturday will be a huge game between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund which will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Los Blancos made it through to the quarters thanks to a narrow win over Italian giants Juventus, thanks to a second-half goal from young forward Gonzalo Garcia, who has been one of Madrid's standout performers in the US.
For Dortmund, a path to the quarters was carved out in higher-scoring fashion, with Niko Kovac's men beating Mexican side by two goals to one, due in no small part to a first-half brace from deadly forward Serhou Guirassy. That effort was a pleasing one, and in general, the boys in yellow have looked useful since touching down on US soil. The question is can they raise their game and tussle with the best in the business? We'll soon find out.

Real Madrid - Borussia Dortmund: Form Analysis
Los Blancos finished the domestic campaign in decent form, beating Real Mallorca, Sevilla and Real Sociedad in quick succession, and they've continued to perform well at the FIFA Club World Cup, tying one and winning two during the group stages. In truth, it's been plain sailing for the men now coached by legendary Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has seen his team win games without really getting out of second gear. The men in white also showed lots of defensive discipline against Juventus, displaying that they have what it takes to grind out wins in the toughest of games.
Something similar can be said for Dortmund, who've perhaps shown a bit more offensive style than Saturday's opponents. They needed plenty of final-third quality to see off an unlikely challenge from South African outfit Mamelodi in the groups, but they've also shown defensive grit, keeping clean sheets against both Fluminense and Ulsan. Doing so against Real Madrid will be much, much harder, though.

Real Madrid & Borussia Dortmund Squad Analysis
David Alaba continues to be out for Real Madrid, while Xabi Alonso will not be able to call on the services of Eduardo Camavinga, who is suffering with a groin problem. Both Endrick and Ferland Mendy are also sidelined for Los Blancos. Summer signing Dean Huijsen is expected to continue in the heart of defense, while Arder Guler, who has impressed at this tournament, should continue in midfield, behind a front two of Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe.
Dortmund boss Niko Kovac isn't expected to change too much, though he will be without Jobe Bellingham, who would've featured against his brother Jude, but for suspension. Carney Chukwuemeka is also expected to miss out through illness. The potentially devastating front three of Julian Brandt, Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi should remain.

Our Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
Clearly one of the most threatening players in world soccer, Vinicius Junior has continued to shine at the FIFA Club World Cup, scoring and assisting an average of 0.56 goals per 90 minutes.
As of yet, the Brazilian has registered just one assist, but that still gives him an encouraging average of 0.28 assists per 90, while he's been getting into plenty of good wide areas, especially on the break, so it's far from difficult to see him providing for one of his fellow forwards here.
After all, we're talking about a player that has four assists in his last eight games.
Moreover, during the regular season, Vinicius Junior typically came up with assists in the biggest games, assisting on two separate occasions vs Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Man City Our Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Pick: Vinicius Junior 1+ Assist.
