Crowd favorite Emma Raducanu of Great Britain will attempt to defy odds as she guns for a seat in the semifinal round of the 2025 HSBC Championships against world’s No.5 Zheng Qinwen of China on Friday.
Raducanu advanced to her second quarterfinal of the year after sweeping Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia 6-4 6-1. Raducanu started hot, rattling off the first five games of the match before overcoming a shaky episode late in the first set. The Brit continued her dominance in the second set, breaking Sramkova three times and holding all four of her serves to win the match.
Zheng survived a three-set classic with McCartney Kessler 6-3 4-6 7-5 to earn her first win on grass this year. Zheng, 4-8 on grass in her career, drilled 10 aces and won 38 points off her first serves, on top of 4 breakpoints, to power her way past the American and earn her first grass-court quarterfinals.
