by Bradley Gibbs in Soccer Picks
On Wednesday night, the first big game of the European soccer season will get underway, essentially lifting the curtain on the new top-tier campaign. Taking place in Italy at Stadio Friuli, also known as Bluenergy Stadium, UEFA Champions League winners PSG will take on UEFA Europa League winners Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup, which for those who don't know is an annual game played between the winners of UEFA's two flagship competitions. The Parisian giants followed up their fine success in Europe's premier knockout competition by reaching the final of the new FIFA Club World Cup over the summer, but they were defeated in the final by English opposition, losing by three goals to zero against Chelsea. The Spurs boys, under new manager Thomas Frank, will be hoping to produce something similar here, but let's be honest, this is a big ask for a team that struggled massively for consistency last season. An interesting game awaits in Udine.Limited Offer. Currently at DraftKings

PSG - Tottenham: Form Analysis
Thanks to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, the PSG boys haven't really had much of a pre-season. In fact, since losing in that final to Chelsea just under a month ago, they've not played, with the UCL winner taking some much-need downtime. Let's face it, though, they're expected to come back with a bang here, especially given the level of form that they were able to show in the US over the summer, despite those efforts coming directly after a long season.
For Thomas Frank's men, preparations for this game have involved plenty of friendly action. Following their success in the UEFA Champions League, the men from North London were afforded a rest period of around six weeks, before they started to win up ahead of the new season, playing six friendly fixtures under their new manager. Results wise, it's been a bit of a mixed bag, but the Lilywhites have only lost one of their pre-season games, beating the likes of Arsenal.

PSG & Tottenham Squad Analysis
For the Parisians, Gianlugi Donnarumma is not expected to feature here, though no other players have been ruled out for definite. The likes of Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, all of whom impressed last season, are likely to feature for PSG, while there could also be a place for summer signing Lucas Chevalier, who was recently signed from Lille for a reported fee of 40 million euros.
Thomas Frank will also be looking to get further minutes into the legs of new signings Mohammed Kudus, who recently joined Spurs from West Ham, while we could also see loan signing Joao Palhinha feature for the Londoners. Europa League Final hero Brennan Johnson is expected to play in a front three alongside the aforementioned Kudus and Richarlison. James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin are all out injured.

Our PSG vs Tottenham Prediction
Of course, much of the early focus ahead of this game is on PSG, who as the UCL winners are expected to have too much in the locker for UEL winner Spurs, but we shouldn't competely rule out the English team offensively. After all, PSG are often too open at the back, while they are vulnerable to the break, which bodes well for the speedy Brennan Johnson, who is a big threat on the counter. Having scored the winner in the Europa League final, Johnson will be looking to leave his mark here, and let's face it, his shooting stats are a little more impressive than the early odds may suggest. Our PSG vs Tottenham Pick: Brennan Johnson 1+ Shots on Target.
