The first trophy of the season is up for grabs in France! The Champions Trophy will be held this Thursday, pitting Paris Saint-Germain against Olympique de Marseille at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait. After a historic year, the club from the French capital is hoping to add more trophies to its collection in 2026. It will have the opportunity to do so this week by winning a competition it has won for the last three years. Currently in second place in Ligue 1, Luis Enrique's team is the clear favorite going into this match.
OM clearly hasn't built up much confidence for this Champions Trophy. In its first match of 2026, the Marseille club suffered a surprise defeat to FC Nantes at the Stade Vélodrome, finishing with two players sent off (0-2). Although Roberto De Zerbi's men are still in third place in Ligue 1, they are now only two points ahead of Stade Rennais (sixth). It will be no easy task to regain confidence ahead of this eagerly awaited match against a team that has already won this competition 13 times...

PSG - Marseille: Form Analysis
PSG is aiming for its 14th Champions Trophy title! Winner of the last three editions, it is once again the clear favorite for this match at the start of 2026. Admittedly, the club from the French capital is only in second place in Ligue 1, one point behind RC Lens (first). However, it is on a run of three consecutive wins in the French championship.
To top it all off, Luis Enrique's team is well on its way to reaching the Champions League round of 16, while also having secured its place in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France. They will have the opportunity to take revenge against Marseille, after losing 1-0 at the Stade Vélodrome on September 22.
PSG has already won the Trophée des Champions 13 times.
For its part, OM is definitely capable of both the worst and the best in this competition. It seemed to be heading for a comfortable qualification for the next edition of the Champions League via Ligue 1. However, Marseille fell from a great height last weekend. They lost to FC Nantes after a nightmarish match in which they finished with two players sent off (0-2).
They are still in third place in the French league, but have allowed their closest rivals to close in on them. Roberto De Zerbi's men are still in contention to qualify for the Champions League play-offs and are still in the running in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France.

PSG & Marseille Squad Analysis
PSG will not have its full squad available for this Champions Trophy. Achraf Hakimi and Ibrahim Mbaye, who are still competing with their national teams in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, will not be back. In addition, Matvey Safonov, Lee Kang-in, and Quentin Ndjantou are still injured. Lucas Chevalier is therefore expected to start in goal. Far from flawless on the goal conceded by the Parisians at the Stade Vélodrome last September, he will be looking to redeem himself.
He will be able to rely on his excellent central defense, consisting of Marquinhos and Willian Pacho. In midfield, there should be no surprises, with Joao Neves, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz. Finally, on the offensive front, Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé gained confidence by scoring in the derby against Paris FC last weekend.
Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé have just made waves in Ligue 1 with PSG.
As for OM, only Nayef Aguerd is absent from the squad for this Champions Trophy. He is currently playing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Leonardo Balerdi is present, but his participation is not certain. Bilal Nadir and Arthur Vermeeren are traveling with the team but are suspended after being sent off against FC Nantes. After a lackluster performance against Les Canaris, Geronimo Rulli will need to step up his game in goal for Marseille.
Benjamin Pavard and Facundo Medina will also be ones to watch in the three-man defense. In midfield, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will try to cause problems for the Parisian midfield. In attack, Roberto De Zerbi has talent at his disposal with Mason Greenwood, Ligue 1's top scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as well as Amine Gouiri and Hamed Junior Traoré, who have returned to competition at the start of 2026.
