Detroit Tigers’ ace hurler Tarik Skubal will try to bounce back from a horrendous outing almost a week ago as he takes on Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Jared Jones in Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader. The Tigers gutted out a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Pirates in their recent game last April 9. Detroit were trailing 1-3 entering the 9th inning when Gio Urshela, Kelly Carpenter, and Jake Rogers hacked out RBI singles in the final inning to complete a comeback win. Detroit carries a three-game win streak after sweeping the last three games of their previous series with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Tigers are in fourth place in the American League Central with a 26-27 card. Meanwhile, the Pirates came up short of sweeping the Atlanta Braves after dropping Game 3 of their series, 8-1. At 25-29, the Pirates remain in fourth place in the NL Central standings. The Tigers will send Tarik Skubal (6-1, 2.25 ERA with 72 strikeouts) to take on Pittsburgh’s rookie sensation Jared Jones (3-4, 3.05 ERA with 68 strikeouts).
