The Pirates split a 2-2 four-game series at PNC Park against the Brewers and now reunite in the desert for another series and a new week against the Diamondbacks, who were swept by the Cardinals in St. Louis.
Despite being swept at Busch Stadium, it was a very close series, so much so that the D-backs lost Game 1 3-4 to the Cardinals, Game 2 5-6, and Game 3-4 on Sunday. Earlier, in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, they also lost the last two games there in two close games.
In Sunday's game, with an RBI single by Suarez, the D-backs took a 2-1 lead in the first inning. Smith drove in the D-backs' third run, but they were again unable to tie the game in the ninth inning.
With their 19-35 record, the Pirates have been one of the most lucrative teams to bet against in 2025. They also have a very poor record outside of PNC Park, going 6-19 this season.
