The New York Rangers will hope to end a five-game skid on Saturday in a matchup against their divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers have won just three games in 2026 and suffered another disappointment on Thursday in their first game back from the Olympic break. Both Igor Shesterkin and Afam Fox returned to the lineup, but the Rangers lost 3-2 in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers on home ice.
While the Blueshirts have had a very tough season, they have yet to lose six games in a row. This could now happen on Saturday when the in-form Penguins visit the Big Apple.
Pittsburgh lost Sidney Crosby to injury during the Olympics and won’t have him in the lineup for at least four weeks. Yet the Penguins didn’t miss the veteran superstar on Thursday, easily beating the New Jersey Devils 4-1 at home.
Dan Muse’s men are now on an 8-1-1 run across their last 10 outings. This stretch includes a 6-5 home victory against the Rangers on Jan. 31. Only three Penguins forwards finished without a point as Muse’s squad dominated the contest. The Rangers only made the score respectable with a late flurry of goals.

The Rangers have been horrible on home ice all year, and the poor run of form started with a 3-0 loss to the Penguins in their season opener. Pittsburgh has been full of goals recently and played well even without Crosby on Thursday.
With the playoff race tight in the Eastern Conference, the Penguins should be wary of any slip-ups. Given the Rangers’ lack of quality, they have a great chance of getting two more points on the board on Saturday.
