The Pittsburgh Penguins (15-7-5) are right in the middle of the hotly contested Metropolitan Division. Currently, only 6 points separate 1st place from last place. The Dallas Stars (19-5-5) are trailing the Avalanche by just 1 point for the lead in the Central Division. The two teams will meet on Sunday evening in Dallas.
The Penguins have won 4 of their last 5, including 2 straight over Philly and Tampa Bay. The 83 goals they have scored on the season put them in a respectable 14th place in the league, but the 71 they have allowed is more impressive. That number puts the Penguins in 3rd place in total goals allowed. Silovs and Jarry are combining to allow an average of just 2.81 goals per game on the season.
Dallas has also won their last 2 games and has been on an even more impressive run as they have won 6 of their last 7. In those wins, they have been defeating teams by an average of 3 goals. They are near the very top of the league in goals scored and right there for goals allowed as well. They are one of the most balanced teams to this point in the season.
This should be the best game of the Sunday slate of NHL games. They will not meet again until late March, but if they each continue the strong play, that game could be a preview of a potential Stanley Cup final matchup.
