Pittsburgh goes down to Florida State in a game between two teams looking to confirm whether they’re really contenders in the ACC. After an encouraging 3-0 start, Florida State has now dropped two straight games and looks like it’s still got some work to do before getting back up the hill.
The Seminoles are better than they were a season ago, but they only have one impressive win out of three. Granted, it’s a heck of a win against Alabama and better than anything on Pittsburgh’s resume, but it’s now been over a month since that game. If Florida State is going to make a run at a quality bowl game, it must establish itself here as a top ACC team, and that means making a statement against a mid-level squad.

Was Mason Heintschel the answer for Pittsburgh, or did that have more to do with playing Boston College? Unlike the Seminoles, the Eagles’ winless record in the ACC is legitimate, and Pitt absolutely dismantled BC at home. But this is also the same Pitt team that lost at West Virginia, and the Mountaineers have been getting boatraced weekly in the Big 12.
More likely, Heintschel’s success had to do with the quality — or lack thereof — of his team’s opposition. The Panthers still have not proven they can beat a quality team, especially on the road. They were able to play with Louisville, but that happened because the Cardinals had a nightmarish first quarter where they spotted Pitt 17 points. The Panthers won’t be as lucky against the Seminoles. Our prediction for Pittsburgh vs. Florida State is Florida State -10.
