On Wednesday night, September 17th, the New York Liberty and Phoenix Mercury will face off in the second game of the first round of the WNBA playoffs. The game will be played at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
In the first game between the teams, which is a best-of-three series at this stage, the Mercury looked threatening at times and stayed ahead on the scoreboard, but without managing to build a comfortable lead, allowing the Liberty to take control of the game again. Even so, the home team's reaction took the game into overtime. In overtime, the New York team dominated, taking the lead on their first possession, opening up a comfortable lead, and never relinquishing it to win 76-69.
Point guard Natasha Cloud was the game's leading scorer with 23 points, followed by Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, who scored 18 and 16 points, respectively. For the Mercury, point guard Kahleah Copper was the leading scorer with 15 points, and Alyssa Thomas came close to a triple-double with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists.
