The 43-20-6 Carolina Hurricanes welcome the 35-26-8 Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday in a Metropolitan clash. The Hurricanes are just a couple of points back from the New York Rangers at the top of the division after going 15-4-1 in their last 20. That is despite losing 0-1 to the Rangers earlier this month but they bounced straight back to top the Florida Panthers 4-0, then winning all three in a recent road trip. Their seven wins in March are the most in the league this month, outscoring their opponents 37-18 in the process, with 37 the most goals any team has scored in March. They are looking for a 4th straight division title, boasting the third most home wins in the East.
Things have fallen apart defensively of late for the Flyers, conceding five or more goals in six of their last 14 games. They are holding on to a spot in the playoffs as things stand but they are only three points to the good over the red-hot Washington Capitals and the Caps have a couple of games in hand. It has been a struggle on the road with a 2-5-1 record in their last eight dating back to the middle of February. They were 15-7-4 overall away from Wells Fargo Center prior to that which is a massive downturn in form. Top defensive pair Cam York and Travis Sanheim are a combined -33 against the East, including -6 against the Canes in three games but +7 against the West.
