The Washington Commanders (9-5 SU, 8-5-1 ATS) host the Philadelphia Eagles (12-2 SU, 9-5 ATS) at the absolute wrong time for their playoff hopes. Technically, Washington could still win the NFC East if it runs the table and Philadelphia loses its final three games. But given that the Eagles would have to lose to the Giants on the final day and New York is 2-12 and down to its fourth-string option at quarterback, that’s not going to happen.
The Commanders are far more concerned about protecting what they have from the likes of Seattle and Atlanta. Arizona could also sneak in, but Washington has that tiebreaker and really doesn’t have to worry about the Cardinals because of that. But the lead on the Seahawks is just one game, and the Commanders could easily lose that edge over the final few weeks of the year. A loss here is expected, but it would really put Washington behind the proverbial eight-ball.

The Eagles know their identity and they operate in accordance with it. Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts both ran over the Commanders in the first meeting, gaining 228 yards on 40 carries in Philadelphia. The Eagles gradually wore down the Commanders and let Barkley take over in the fourth quarter, which was where Philadelphia made its move.
Washington hasn’t shown that it can handle a team with the talent and strength of Philadelphia. The Eagles shoved the Commanders around in the first game, and they are absolutely capable of doing it a second time. The Commanders appear to be the kind of good team that’s only beating bad ones as opposed to being a genuine threat. That’s usually enough to make the playoffs, but it’s nowhere near good enough to win a division. Our prediction for Philadelphia vs. Washington is Eagles -3.5.
