by Bradley Gibbs in AFCON Picks
We’ve reached the final four at the African Cup of Nations. Four teams remain, one of which is the host nation. Following Senegal vs Egypt on Wednesday, it’s Nigeria vs Morocco, which will take place in the capital of Rabat.
Boasting one of the strongest squads, the Nigerians were always fancied to do well at this tournament. They’ve done well, there’s no doubting that, and they’re now just one game away from reaching the AFCON final for the second the second time in quick succession, having made the final when the tournament was last played. The Super Eagles have now reached the semi finals in five of the last nine renewals of the African Cup of Nations.
The hosts came into the tournament as favorites and they’ve not yet disappointed, reaching the semi finals in very sturdy fashion. With lots of backing from the home crowd, can the Atlas Lions continue to roar and reach the final? The betting suggests that they can, that’s for sure.

Nigeria - Morocco: Form Analysis
No team has been quite as perfect as Nigeria from a results point of view at this tournament, with Eric Chelle’s men winning five out of five in Morocco, scoring an impressive total of 14 goals, notching at least twice in all five of their games. They’ve shown a fabulous balance of pace, power, creativity and end-product, while they’ve done a fantastic job of dominating games too.
They’ve also done a superb job of managing games with a serious element of control, keeping possession well, biding their time, before letting their decisive attackers, such as tournament top scorer Brahim Diaz, make the difference.
The Moroccans are also very strong, especially in terms of keeping teams out, with the Atlas Lions conceding in just one of their five games since the tournament began in late December. They’ve also done a superb job of managing games with a serious element of control, keeping possession well, biding their time, before letting their decisive attackers, such as tournament top scorer Brahim Diaz, make the difference.

Nigeria & Morocco Squad Analysis
Eric Chelle has the unenviable task of replacing Wilfried Ndidi. The midfielder, who is an important part of the Nigeria set-up is suspended for this game. Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is expected to deputise. Cyriel Dessers remains out with an injury.
Head coach Walid Regragui is expected to name the same starting XI that featured against Cameroon.
The Moroccans may once again be without Romain Saiss, who picked up a knock earlier in the tournament, though the absence of the former EPL player did not hamper the tournament hosts last time out. Azzedine Ounahi has missed both knockout games with an injury and is not yet expected to return. Head coach Walid Regragui is expected to name the same starting XI that featured against Cameroon.

Our Nigeria vs Morocco Prediction
To be honest, it’s a bit of a shame that this game isn’t the final, as what we’ve seen from these two teams makes both worthy of a place in the showpiece event. One must make way, though, and for my money, it’s the hosts who can get it done.
More importantly, a Moroccan win in this game looks to be slightly generously priced. Sure, the Nigerians have been great, but they’ve not come up against an opponent anywhere near as strong as the Atlas Lions, who made light work of fending off the Cameroonians last time out. The Super Eagles only just edged out the Tunisians during the groups, and for my money, the Moroccans are an awful lot stronger.
