Nicolas Jarry of Chile takes on American rising star Learner Tien in the second round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open.
Jarry is coming off a huge upset over world’s No.8 Holger Rune 4-6 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4. Jarry stepped into Monday’s first-round match with momentum after racking up three wins in the qualifiers. Of course, Rune entered the match as the betting favorites because of his top-10 reputation and previous win over Jarry 6-4 7-6(3) in the first round of the 2024 Swiss Indoors Basel. However, Jarry carried over his terrific form from the qualifiers into his duel with Rune, bombarding the Dane with 31 aces and 66 points off the first serves. He also broke Rune four times.
Meanwhile, Tien produced a clinical win over compatriot Nishesh Basavareddy 7-6(5) 6-3 6-2. The 19-year-old Tien yielded only once service break against Basavareddy, collecting 45 points off the first serves and 25 points off the second. He also converted four breakpoint chances, allowing him to put on the finishing kick to secure the win.
