Premier League champions Liverpool face a tricky early season test on Monday night, as they visit a Newcastle United side looking to build on last season's excellent fourth place finish. Unfortunately for the Magpies, their start to this campaign has been overshadowed by the saga surrounding star forward Aleksandr Isak. The Swedish striker is currently absent from the Newcastle squad after strongly expressing his desire to join Liverpool. However, the Toon are reluctant to sell given their lack of suitable replacements. With both sides refusing to budge, the situation looks set to cast a shadow over Newcastle's season for a long time.
Despite that ongoing problem, Newcastle produced a solid display to earn a point away at Aston Villa last weekend. A similar performance could cause problems for a Liverpool side that looked far from their best, despite edging out Bournemouth 4-2 on opening night.
