This is a highly anticipated match on the third and final day of Group G play at the 2026 World Cup. This Friday, New Zealand and Belgium will face off at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. Even though they sit in last place in the group with just one point, the All Whites haven’t yet had their final say in the fight to qualify for the Round of 16. After a draw against Iran (2-2) and a loss to Egypt (1-3), the team coached by Darren Bazeley must win, but it won’t be an easy task...
Highly anticipated in this World Cup, Belgium has its back against the wall more than ever ahead of this final matchday. The Red Devils have yet to secure a win after their first two matches. They were held to draws by Egypt (1-1) and Iran (0-0). Rudi Garcia’s men must step up to avoid a major disappointment and an early exit in the group stage. We expect them to live up to their status and advance to the Round of 16!

New Zealand - Belgium: Form Analysis

New Zealand wasn’t at the top of its game when it arrived for the 2026 World Cup. Before entering Group G, it had suffered nine losses in its last 11 matches. Still, the All Whites managed to put on a good show in their World Cup opener.
Although they settled for a draw against Iran (2-2), they led twice during the match. The team coached by Darren Bazeley then gave Egypt a run for their money. They held the lead at halftime but ultimately faltered after the break (1-3). They now have no choice but to aim for a win to advance to the Round of 16.
If they win, Belgium would qualify for the Round of 16.
Belgium also has a lot riding on this final matchday of the group stage. The Red Devils can’t afford any mistakes if they want to advance to the knockout stage. After being held to a 1-1 draw by Egypt, they failed to bounce back against Iran. Even though they dominated the match, Rudi Garcia’s men were never able to break the deadlock (0-0).
In fact, they were on edge until the very end, as they played more than 20 minutes with one fewer player after Nathan Ngoy was sent off. Still, their fate remains in their own hands. A win would guarantee Belgium a top-two finish in Group G.

New Zealand & Belgium Squad Analysis
On defense, New Zealand can count on Finn Surman, who has been very solid so far. The Portland Timbers defender even opened the scoring against Egypt. In midfield, Joe Bell and Marko Stamenic are expected to start again. They were in the starting lineup for the All Whites’ first two matches in this World Cup.
On the offensive end, it’s hard not to pay special attention to Elijah Henry Just and Chris Wood. These two players caused major problems for Iran in New Zealand’s opening match. Elijah Henry just scored two goals off two assists from Chris Wood.
Nathan Ngoy is suspended for this match against Belgium after being sent off against Iran.
As for Belgium, they’ll have to do without Nathan Ngoy for this match. He was sent off in the second half against Iran. In addition, Zeno Debast and Jérémy Doku remain doubtful for this showdown. So far, Thibaut Courtois has held his own in goal for the Red Devils. The Real Madrid goalkeeper is once again expected to shine in this decisive match. He should once again have Brandon Mechele in front of him.
In midfield, Youri Tielemans and Kevin De Bruyne are indispensable. They’ll do everything they can to make their mark this Saturday. Finally, Belgium’s offense needs to be much more effective. As a result, Leandro Trossard and Romelu Lukaku will be under pressure to score some goals.
