The New York Yankees will open their series against their AL East rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays, on Saturday at Rogers Center.
DraftKings has installed the Blue Jays as the home favorite in Game 1, listing at -126 moneyline.
But don’t dare to overlook the Yankees (+129), who have outlasted a tough Boston Red Sox in a frantic three-game wild card duel.
Current Form:
The Blue Jays earned an outright spot in the ALDS after finishing the regular season with the best record in the American League at 94-68. The Yankees finished with a similar record, but the Blue Jays still clinched the tiebreaker and the AL East title since they won the regular-season series against the Yankees 8-5.
Despite winning over 90 games this season, the Yankees had to earn their place in the ALDS the hard way by playing the Red Sox in a grueling wild card series. Boston put New York on the brink of elimination by taking Game 1, 3-1. However, the Yankees extended the series behind a tiebreaking hit by Austin Wells in the 8th inning. In Game 3, Cam Schlitter delivered a pitching master class, throwing eight scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts to power the Yankees to a 4-0 win.
Starting Pitchers Matchup:
Yankees RHP Luis Gil (4-1, 3.32 ERA): Gil has pitched the Yankees to a win in four of his last five starts. During this stretch, Gil has sported a 6.38 ERA over 4.1 innings per games. Gil had not faced the Blue Jays during the regular-season, but in his last start against Toronto last year, he surrendered three runs over 5.0 innings in a 1-3 loss.
Blue Jays RHP Kevin Gausmann (10-11, 3.59 ERA): Gausmann has thrown back-to-back games with four earned runs each, raising his ERA over his final five starts of the regular-season to 2.78. Against the Yankees though, Gausmann is almost unhittable. Toronto’s ace pitched three games against the Yankees this year, posting an average of 1.3 earned runs and 5.3 strikeouts per game.

Our New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction
The Blue Jays are in a position to make a statement in Game 1. Toronto won four of its last five games of the regular season and went 8-2 in its last 10 home games. Gausmann looked strong in his last three starts vs. the Yankees, boosting my confidence that he will also do well against the Bronx Bombers in Game 1.
The Yankees' offense will always present danger for any team they face because of their sheer firepower. However, Gil isn’t the most reliable starter out of the rotation because he has been erratic on the mound as of late. Gil hasn’t had a clue how to tame the Blue Jays’ big bats, mainly because he didn’t have a chance to pitch against them in the regular season. Of course, the Yankees’ bullpen is always a concern. Will the Yankees' relief pitcher sustain their good showing in the Red Sox game? I don’t think so.
Prediction: Blue Jays 5, Yankees 2
Our betting prediction for the New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays: The Blue Jays will cover -1.5 runs.
