The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins meet Wednesday night at Target Field to wrap up their midweek series. New York enters this matchup at 84-67, still in the thick of the playoff race after edging out the Twins 10-9 in a slugfest on Tuesday. The Yankees remain five games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East and will need to string together wins down the stretch to stay alive in the postseason hunt. Following this series, New York will hit the road again for a critical divisional matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, a series that could heavily influence the Wild Card standings.
Minnesota, by contrast, has little left to play for this season. Sitting 19 games back in the AL Central and already mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, the Twins are simply looking to finish strong and evaluate younger talent. The offense has shown flashes, particularly through Byron Buxton, who leads the team in nearly every major category with a .271 batting average, 31 homers, and 76 RBIs.
However, the overall lineup has underperformed, ranking near the bottom of the American League with a collective .240 batting average, 639 total runs, and just over 1,200 hits. Their struggles are compounded by a shaky pitching staff that owns a team ERA of 4.58, one of the worst marks in the league.

Our New York Yankees vs Minnesota Twins Prediction
On the mound Wednesday, New York will turn to right-hander Luis Gil, who has been impressive this season despite some inconsistency with command. Gil enters with a 4-1 record and a 2.83 ERA across 41.1 innings, showing the ability to miss bats while racking up strikeouts. His biggest issue has been walks, which occasionally inflate his pitch count and allow opponents to generate scoring chances. Against a patient team like Minnesota, this could become a factor, as the Twins have enough discipline to draw free passes and put runners on base.
Minnesota will counter with Taj Bradley, who sits at 6-7 with a 4.88 ERA in nearly 133 innings of work. Bradley has struggled with home runs allowed and command lapses, which could spell trouble against a Yankees lineup that can pile up runs quickly when locked in. With Aaron Judge and Juan Soto leading New York’s power threat and Gleyber Torres providing consistent production, the Yankees have the far deeper and more dangerous lineup compared to Minnesota.
Ultimately, this is a game New York needs far more than Minnesota, and urgency often plays a decisive role in September baseball. While the Twins may be able to test Gil’s control, the Yankees’ superior offense and overall talent give them the edge. Expect New York to finish the series strong and secure another road win as they continue to chase a playoff berth. Our prediction for Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees: Yankees to win.
