The first meeting of the season between the New York Rangers (12-11-2) and the Boston Bruins (14-11-0) will take place in Boston this Friday afternoon.
New York is coming off back-to-back wins over St. Louis and Carolina, where they combined to outscore them 7-4. The wins come on the heels of a 4-game losing streak that the Rangers were mired in through mid-November. Center, Vincent Trocheck scored in both of their recent wins and has provided an unexpected boost late in the month.
Boston started the month on fire with 5 straight wins, but has cooled off a bit, losing 4 of its last 7. They are coming off a nice 3-1 win over the other New York team, the Islanders, this past Wednesday. Jeremy Swayman was spectacular in the win, stopping 44 of the 45 shots he faced.
The Rangers will need to figure out how to get some pucks past Swayman if they are going to score the home win here. That will not come easy against a Bruins team that is 7th in the league in killing power plays. And the goals will likely be needed as the Bruins do a decent job of scoring. They currently sit in 6th in the NHL in total goals.
