The biggest outsiders in the midweek NHL schedule were definitely the New York Islanders, as they were able to defeat the Colorado Avalanche (6-3). Despite that amazing result, the Islanders weren’t made favorites to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning this Saturday night, but that shouldn’t impact the Islanders’ motivation at all.

In this matter, it’s worth noting that the Tampa Bay Lightning currently have a two-game losing streak that has already put them at high risk of losing their Eastern Conference playoff spot. Additionally, it must be noted that one of those lost games was actually played against the Islanders, so the Lightning will have an almost immediate chance for revenge.

However, the New York Islanders have gained enough momentum to look for a victory on the road against the Lightning, so they are expected to show a terrific defense that could nullify Nikita Kucherov, who is the most valuable player in Tampa Bay’s roster. Also, it must be noted that despite their good momentum, the Islanders aren’t in a safe zone yet, so losing this game could even take them out from the playoff spots.
