The New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders meet in Week 17 NFL action on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, with both teams arriving in similar and unenviable positions. Each club is riding a nine-game losing streak, and each is staring down the end of a lost season where development and draft position matter far more than playoff aspirations.

New York comes in after a 16-13 loss to Minnesota, a game that followed the same familiar script the Giants have endured for most of the season. The offense struggled to finish drives, the defense bent repeatedly, and the margin for error proved too thin. That defeat marked the Giants ninth straight loss, and they will finish the season next week at home against Dallas. Road games have been particularly unkind to New York, and this matchup does little to suggest an immediate turnaround.

Statistically, the Giants offense has been functional but far from dangerous. Their rushing attack has been a relative strength, ranking seventh in rushing yards per game, but the passing offense remains inconsistent and ranks 20th.

Las Vegas is dealing with its own list of problems, but last week offered at least a hint of competitiveness. The Raiders fell 23-21 to Houston, a team firmly in the playoff picture, and showed more fight than their record suggests. Still, the overall numbers paint a grim picture. Las Vegas ranks dead last in the NFL in both scoring, at 14.5 points per game, and total offense, at 248.9 yards per game. They are 29th in passing offense and last in rushing offense, making sustained drives difficult to come by.
