The Carolina Panthers (1-7 SU, 1-7 ATS) host the New Orleans Saints (2-6 SU, 3-5 ATS) in one of the saddest matchups of the season. The Saints were seen as a potential top team in the NFC South after two weeks, but they’ve since fallen back to earth because of a defense that has been unable to stop anything.
Over the past three weeks, the Saints have allowed 110 points, and two of those three games came at home. None of New Orleans’ past four losses have come by less than 13 points, making it clear that this team really wasn’t ready to compete at the NFL’s highest levels. Instead, the early success was a product of a weak early schedule — which included a season-opening win over Carolina.

Carolina seems to be even more lost than New Orleans, as the Panthers have been blown out in five straight games. Only Cincinnati allowed the Black Cats to stay within 10 points, as the Panthers’ past four losses have all come by at least two touchdowns.
The defense has been just abysmal, as Carolina hasn’t allowed less than 22 points in a game. It’s clear that the win over the Raiders was just a case of Andy Dalton giving his team one game of inspiration and then the Panthers sinking back into their usual stupor. The losses to Atlanta and Washington showed that this team is nowhere near figuring it out. Neither team is worth trusting, and the defenses are so poor that it’s not worth playing the total. The Saints are slightly less wretched. Our prediction for Carolina vs. New Orleans is Saints -7.5.
