The New Orleans Pelicans (50-34 SU, 43-37-2 ATS) look to build off their play-in victory as they take on the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder (57-25 SU, 46-36 ATS). The Thunder have dominated all year at home, going 33-8 SU on their home floor. But one of the defeats came to New Orleans, which has won on four of its past five visits to Oklahoma. This has been a series where home court hasn’t meant anything good; the visitor is 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in the past 10 meetings.
However, the Pelicans remain absent Zion Williamson, which could really hurt against the Thunder. The Pelicans played without Williamson against Oklahoma City on Jan. 26 and got crushed 107-83. Unless C.J. McCollum can again make up for the absence, the Pelicans will have a tough time in the opener.

At some point, the Pelicans’ play in Oklahoma is going to catch up with them. The Thunder should have won one by now at home, and they’ve been nothing short of outstanding in their building. New Orleans has actually played well on the road this year, going 28-14 away from Louisiana.
However, Oklahoma City is at full strength and looking to prove a point. The Pelicans also might be a tad gassed after playing two play-in games needed to get to this series. That’s not a great combination for the first game in what could be a difficult series. New Orleans is far from helpless against this Oklahoma City squad and will probably steal at least one game on the road, but this doesn’t appear to be the day. For Game 1 of New Orleans vs. Oklahoma City, our prediction is Thunder -8.5.
