After seven matches, Monterrey is still not among the top eight teams that qualify for the Liga MX playoffs. Their quest for a playoff spot continues when they host Cruz Azul in what is considered one of the most evenly matched games in pre-match betting odds for Matchday 8 of Liga MX.
Monterrey has been unpredictable this season. In their last Liga MX match, they conceded two goals to Pumas' Angulo within the first 25 minutes of the game; even though Rayados had 25 shots, they failed to score and lost 2-0 at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario.
While that was happening, Cruz Azul, who lost their season opener against León but haven't lost since, have had a tremendously successful February. They avoided defeat against Toluca at the Nemesio Díaz stadium, mercilessly thrashed Vancouver FC in the Concacaf Champions League, and a goal from Ibáñez gave them a 2-1 victory over the current runner-up, Tigres.
