On Wednesday evening, some of the best players currently operating in Major League Soccer will get down to business, but not for their regular teams, oh no. It's time for the MLS All-Stars to come together for their now yearly fixture against the best players in Mexico, who'll form the Liga MX All-Stars. Including the likes of Denis Bouanga and Diego Rossi, as well as newbies like Sam Surridge and Ander Dreyer, both of whom have so far been fantastic this season, the MLS boys will be looking to atone for their 2024 defeat in this game. This time around, they'll also have the help of the legendary Lionel Messi, who was out injured last year. Messi's addition should certainly help.
The Mexicans will be looking to repeat what they achieved a year ago, when at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, they picked up a big victory, thanks in no small part to second half goals from Tigres' Juan Francisco Brunetta and Argentine Maxi Meza, who won't be playing this year. This year, the Liga MX All-Stars will have to go to Austin, Texas, where the game will be played at Q2 Stadium.

I'm not going to let the 2024 result cloud my judgement here, and you know what, I'm going to say that despite the result making it seem one-sided, the 2024 renewal was fairly evenly matched, so I really wouldn't be surprised if this one ended all square before going to penalties. Looking at the squad, the MLS All-Stars look stronger this season and I'm not sure that the Liga MX All-Stars have improved, so the gap in quality, which wasn't that big anyway, is quite small.
For my money, the gap in quality between the two is much smaller than the early odds suggest, so much so that the odds for a stalemate look a little generous.
