The Minnesota Vikings visit the Green Bay Packers in a matchup that has tended to favor the visitors as of late. However, these Vikings aren’t the same team that they were last year. Minnesota isn’t anywhere near as strong without Sam Darnold, and the Vikings’ success against Green Bay has almost been entirely tied to how well they throw the ball.
Last year, Minnesota threw for more than 250 yards in both games, edging Green Bay by two points both times. 250 yards of passing has been the magic number for Minnesota as of late, as the Vikings are 5-0 against the Packers when they hit that number and 0-3 when they fall short. In 2023, the Vikings managed a mere 144 yards through the air, and the Packers cruised to a 33-10 win.

The Packers have been a simply terrible bet all season, but this might be the opponent they need. Minnesota has not thrown the ball well this year, and Green Bay’s defense has been its biggest strength. The Packers don’t really allow big yardage to happen; they’ve held their past six opponents to under 250 passing yards.
It hasn’t mattered what kind of team Green Bay has come up against; the defense has done its job. That means the Vikings are likely to struggle, as Minnesota hasn’t shown it can move the football consistently. JJ McCarthy is likely to get better, but he’s nowhere near what Sam Darnold or even Daniel Jones offered a year ago. With that being the case, the small line shouldn’t be something to worry about. Our prediction for Minnesota vs. Green Bay is Packers -6.5.
