New Orleans Pelicans will open their NBA Summer League play with an exciting matchup against Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday evening. The Pelicans will be preparing to unleash their 16-man roster without Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen. Both players undoubtedly earned their All-Rookie selections, although it appears the management doesn’t see value in sending them to Las Vegas. The Pelicans’ assistant coach God Shammgod will lead the Summer League team.
Minnesota Timberwolves, on the other hand, will be setting their sights on starting their five-game Summer League schedule with a win. They released their roster on Sunday, with Round 2 draft pick Isaiah Evans conspicuously left out. That’s likely because of a series of unfinalized NBA trades, with Evans expected to join the team once the trade is officially finalized. Thankfully, they have plenty of young talent to choose from, including Joan Beringer (the 2025 17th overall draft pick).

From our perspective, the Wolves have an edge thanks to their deeper and slightly more talented roster. Beringer is an exciting name that everyone will be eager to see this summer. The Frenchman’s long-term potential is undeniable and could get an expanded role this summer. Last year, Beringer played in Minnesota’s four Summer League games, when they reached the semis, averaging 6.8 points and 6.5 rebounds. He should be feeling more comfortable this year and post more improved numbers, as the franchise positions him to succeed Gobert in the future. We think he’ll make the difference in this contest.
