The Milwaukee Brewers have surged to the top of National League Central standings with 12-6 record thanks to the terrific numbers from their batting corps led by William Contreras. The Brewers catcher is off to a scintillating start, batting a team high .361 with four homers and 19 RBIs. On Friday, Contreras proved his immense value for Milwaukee as he drove two runs, including a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th inning of a 2-1 walk-off win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Despite sending Christian Yelich to a 10-day injury list with a strained back injury, the Brewers have sustained their strong batting form, carrying an impressive .270/.347/.434 batting split with 100 runs. Contreras in particular has been terrific over the last seven days, recording one homer, six RBIs and nine hits in 24 at-bats. Saturday’s ballgame will pit Contreras against the probable starting pitcher for the Cardinals, Miles Mikolas (1-2, 5.82 ERA with 15 strikeouts).
