The first game of the Brewers-Padres series at Petco Park was a true blast, with playoff flavor, with the Padres winning 5-4 in extra innings thanks to Fermín's RBI single. With that game, the Padres, in a packed stadium, secured their postseason berth. After also winning Game 2 of their series against the Brewers 7-0, they are, with four games left in the regular season, just two games behind the Dodgers for the lead in the West.
The Padres, then, want to make sure they make it to the postseason, and a 7-0 win over the Brewers, the team with the best record in MLB, is certainly encouraging. Dominican Randy Vásquez pitched a gem on Tuesday, pitching seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out three and walking only two. All of the Padres' runs came via home runs. O'Hearn hit a grand slam with Laureano, Sheets, and Arraez on board; Arraez himself hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-3, and Iglesias, with a solo home run, scored the seventh run.
According to betting data, the first game of the series was extremely close, but the Brewers lost the second as -125 favorites. Chad Patrick will pitch in the third game scheduled for the afternoon in San Diego by the Brew Crew, rather than Quinn Priester, who appeared as a probable pitcher to pitch Wednesday night. Patrick is pitching regularly, out of the bullpen, but also as an occasional starter; he pitched four innings on September 20 against the Cardinals.
This last-minute switch from Patrick to Priester influenced the betting odds, and the Padres, rather than the Brewers, will be the favorites in Game 3.

Our Milwaukee Brewers vs San Diego Padres Prediction
The Brewers then lost their last three games, the second time that's happened in September. In the midst of a season in which they broke the franchise record by winning 14 straight games, you'd have to go back to April to see when the Brewers last lost four in a row.
Dylan Cease is listed as the Padres' likely starter; his last two outings at Petco Park were strong: he struck out seven Orioles to start September and then six Rockies on September 13 in a start in which he recorded a quality outing. He also struck out ten Brewers in 2024, in a game San Diego won 9-5.
Our prediction for Padres vs Brewers is: Padres ML.
