The Oregon Ducks (8-10, 1-6 Big Ten) will have a challenge on their hands when they host the No. 10 Michigan Spartans (16-2, 6-1 Big Ten) Tuesday night, January 20, at the Matthew Knight Arena at 9 pm EST in Eugene, OR. Coverage for this Big Ten battle will be provided by FS1.
Oregon started the season with a nice 4-0 run, but then fell on hard times, losing five in a row, including games against No. 21 Auburn and No. 24 USC, their first conference game and loss of the season (which was followed by a loss to UCLA). They briefly got back on track with a pair of wins and pulled about .500 (6-5), but then lost to No. 7 Gonzaga. The bulk of their conference schedule got off to a good start with a win over Maryland. But they have since lost four in a row; their last game was on Saturday, when they lost to No. 4 Michigan. As for Michigan State, the Spartans started the season with an 8-0 run that included three wins over ranked teams before falling to No. 4 Duke 66-60. They took their first conference loss of the new year on January 2 when they fell to No. 13 Nebraska, 58-56.

Michigan State will win this game. They have the No. 10 defense in the country, and they'll be facing one of the weaker offenses in the Big Ten (Oregon ranks No. 15 in the conference). Barring the starting five for the Spartans falling ill and missing the game, Michigan State will have no problem covering the spread, but I see the TOTAL as the best bet for this game. Michigan State doesn't exactly light up the scoreboard, and its defense will keep Oregon's lackluster offense from scoring much.
