The Massachusetts Minutemen (15-11, 6-7 MAC) will be the latest to try to knock the last remaining undefeated team from the ranks of the unbeaten when they host No. 22 Miami (OH) RedHawks (25-0, 12-0 MAC) today at the Mullins Center in Amherst, MA. Tipoff for this MAC battle is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
Miami (OH) has been in danger of seeing its streak end in recent weeks. There were the back-to-back overtime games, one vs. Buffalo (Jan. 17, 105-102) followed by another vs. Kent State (Jan. 20, 107-101). Massachusetts gave them a run for their money a week later (Jan. 27), only to fall short, 86-84. Buffalo gave them another scare in the rematch (Feb. 3), but lost by two, 73-71. They beat their last two opponents, Ohio (Feb. 13) and Marshall (Feb. 7), 90-74. UMass responded to the loss to Miami (OH) with wins over Eastern Michigan (70-67) and Central Michigan (95-89), but lost their last two, to Coastal Carolina (94-91 3OT) and Akron (99-92).
This will be just the fourth time these two programs have faced off. Miami (OH) won the last matchup a couple of weeks ago. But UMass won the first two back in January 2014 and 2013.
