The Washington Nationals will try to snap a five-game losing skid on Friday when they begin their three-game weekend series against the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park.
The Nationals (30-38) have lost five games in a row after winning only one game against the Rangers and getting swept by the waxing hot New York Mets in their last two series. Over the last five games, Washington has pitched a 4.19 ERA and batted .196 with a measly 1.6 runs per game average.
The Marlins (25-41) are 2-3 in their last five games, with their only wins in this stretch coming in the second game against the Pirates 3-2 and the Tampa Bay Rays 11-10 F/10. Miami is averaging four runs a game on a .247 batting average, which is a decent number by league standards. Unfortunately, the Marlins’ pitching staff still could not contain opponents from outscoring them, surrendering a 5.06 ERA in the five-game stretch.
