The Mets' pitching, both starters and relievers, has earned the merits in 2025 to perpetuate itself as the best in the MLB, at least for now, and some wonder if they can maintain this excellent pace in the long run.
After the Mets held the Blue Jays to three runs in 27 innings, the Mets' pitching opened a series at City Field again, blanking the Marlins in Game 1. They won 2-0 with an RBI from Soto and another from Taylor.
Senga earned his first win since 2023, pitching five innings, and again, through Young, Butto, and Stanek, the relief pitcher took over what Senga left unfinished until the ninth inning, allowing no runs.
Alcantara is on the list of those who missed out on the Marlins' ability to give fans a duel of aces against Senga, and Gillespie will be the Game 2 starter, having already pitched five solid innings against the Mets in Miami earlier this season.
Holmes, reimagined in his current role as the Mets' starter, fell one out short of completing five innings in his first two outings, but he maintains his strikeout prowess, recording 10 Ks to his name to start 2025.
