As part of the warm-up campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mexico and Japan will meet in a friendly on US soil on Saturday evening. The pair will clash at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California. The Mexicans, as winners of the recently concluded Gold Cup, know all about competing in this part of the world, but for the Japanese, this will be a chance to gain some momentum ahead of what will likely be some tough tests at the World Cup next summer. Will El Tri continue to be in dominant form following three straight wins and no loss in seven, six of which they've won? We'll soon find out.
We probably shouldn't expect this to be plain sailing for the Mexicans, though. After all, the visitors know how to get results, with Hajime Moriyasu's men winning each of their last four games, conceding just one goal in the process, while we only have to look back to the last World Cup, when the Japanese downed the Germans, to know that the Samurai Blue can do damage.
