The first round of the 2025 US Open championship already presents a litmus test for McCartney Kessler of the United States, who opened at -172 against WTA veteran and former Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linette.

Linette went 3-3 during the US Open warmups, bombing out in the second round of both the Washington and Canadian Open before making it to the round of 16 at Cincinnati. In her last tournament, Linett earned her sixth career win over a top-5 opponent after stunning Jessica Pegula 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3 in the second round in Cincy.
