The Maryland Terrapins will face off with the South Carolina Gamecocks in the NCAAW Sweet 16 on Friday, March 28, at 5 p.m. ET. Coverage of the game will be via ESPN.
It looked like South Carolina’s reign was destined to end during the regular season when they dropped two out of three games in early February, 66-62 to Texas and 87-58 to UConn. But then they rattled off seven wins in a row, including a rematch with Texas in the SEC tournament title game, which they won 64-45. They beat Tennessee Tech by 60 in the first round. While they got off to a rough start vs. Indiana (down 26-25 at the half), they went on to win by nine, 64-53. This will be the fourth time in the last five seasons Maryland has made the Sweet 16. As for Maryland, their road to the Sweet 16 was a bit more challenging. They fell behind against Norfolk State at the half, 32-30. But they made the right adjustments during the break and dominated the second half, 52-37, to secure an 82-69 win. Against Alabama, they needed double overtime to finish off Alabama 111-108, securing a spot in the Sweet 16 for the fifth consecutive season.
