The fifth day of Ligue 1 concludes with one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the season! This Sunday, Olympique de Marseille welcomes Paris Saint-Germain for the first Classique of the season at the Stade Vélodrome. Spurred on by its twelfth man, the Marseille club dreams of defying the odds against its great rival and, above all, the favorite for the title. It is currently in 7th place in the standings, with 6 points to its name. Roberto De Zerbi's team is brimming with confidence after its Champions League performance, despite losing 2-1 to Real Madrid. It clearly stood up to one of the best teams on the Old Continent.
However, it will be a different story this weekend. The reigning Champions League holders, PSG got off to a flying start on the European stage, crushing Atalanta Bergamo 4-0 last Wednesday. What's more, Luis Enrique's men have yet to drop a single point in Ligue 1 this season and managed to win the European Super Cup against Tottenham. Despite some notable absences (Joao Neves, Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé), the club from the French capital remains the clear favorite in this matchup and will be looking to win a very important game for its fans.

Marseille - PSG: Form Analysis
The start of the season has not been easy for OM. Defeated on the first day at Stade Rennais (1-0), despite a long numerical advantage, an altercation took place in the locker room between Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe. Both players were sold following the incident. The Marseille club managed to bounce back by beating Paris FC (5-2), but fell back into its old ways the following day, losing the Olympico to OL (1-0). Since the end of the first international break of the season, however, Roberto De Zerbi's team seems to be doing better. First, they easily dominated FC Lorient (4-0), before losing by just one goal at Real Madrid in their Champions League debut (2-1). Against Los Merengues, Marseille only conceded a penalty, which has been the subject of much discussion in recent days.
PSG has yet to experience a single setback at the start of the season.
PSG has been particularly strong since the restart. Even though it didn't have time to play any preseason games, it has racked up a string of excellent results. The Parisian club couldn't have asked for a better start, beating Tottenham in the European Super Cup and winning on penalties. Luis Enrique's men then won their first four Ligue 1 matches. While they were not particularly impressive in their victories over FC Nantes (0-1) and SCO Angers (1-0), they showed much better form in defeating Toulouse FC (3-6) and RC Lens (2-0). Last Wednesday, the defending Champions League title holders put their crown on the line in Europe's premier competition. Atalanta Bergamo were no match for Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat.

Marseille & PSG Squad Analysis
For this Classique, OM will have to cope without Hamed Junior Traoré. The good news for Roberto De Zerbi is that Nayef Aguerd should be back for this clash. After making a successful debut in his new colors last weekend, the Moroccan center back had to sit out against Real Madrid due to concussion protocol. Impressive in the Champions League midweek, Geronimo Rulli will be eagerly awaited in goal for the Phoceans. He is likely to have a lot of work to do again on Sunday evening. Very important in midfield, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be looking to shine. In attack, Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will do everything they can to cause problems for the Parisian defense.
Joao Neves was injured in the Champions League against PSG and will miss this Classique.
As for PSG, several key players are out of action. In addition to the absences of Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé, Luis Enrique received some very bad news midweek with the injury to Joao Neves. To make matters worse, Bradley Barcola is also out. However, that doesn't mean the Parisian coach doesn't have strong arguments for going for the three points. In goal, Lucas Chevalier has already kept four clean sheets in his last five games. He can rely on the excellent center-back pairing of Marquinhos and Willian Pacho, as well as two of the best fullbacks in the world, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes. With several key players missing in attack, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will be more important than ever.
