The Champions League clash between Marseille and Dutch side Ajax, which will take place at the Stade Vélodrome, looks set to be a thrilling one. Ajax won their Eredivisie match against Breda 2-1 this weekend, and after Marseille came from behind in their Ligue 1 match to defeat Strasbourg with goals from Aubameyang and Murillo.
Without a doubt, Marseille, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, has made significant investments and recent acquisitions, in addition to retaining key players, suggesting that Marseille is PSG's main rival this season. In fact, Marseille, with an own goal, won 1-0 against the Parisians and currently sits third in Ligue 1, three points behind PSG and Lyon.
In the Champions League, Marseille made a good impression, especially in attack; In their match against Real Madrid, American Timothy Weah in particular had a strong night in Marseille's 2-1 defeat, which was not without controversy when the referee awarded Real Madrid's second penalty.
De Zerbi used some rotations against Strasbourg in Ligue 1 to prepare for their Champions League match against Ajax. For example, Greenwood played only 33 minutes. The young English striker, valued at 41 million euros, is almost certain to start, alongside Gabonese Aubameyang against Ajax.
