The #16 Marquette Golden Eagles are currently 20-6 and 2nd in the Big East conference standings. They have won back-to-back games after a 3-game skid before those wins. Tonight, they head to Philly to face the 15-12 Villanova Wildcats. Nova is looking to avoid a 3-game losing streak after losing to Providence and Connecticut in their previous 2 games. This will be the 2nd meeting between the teams, as Marquette took the 1st game in late January 87-74. In the previous meeting, Villanova committed 12 turnovers, which was double what Marquette finished with (6). Stevie Mitchell led the Golden Eagles with 21 points in the win and shot 7-10 from the field. However, Jordan Longino from Nova, led all scorers with 27 points in the loss. Marquette is just 6-4 on the road this season while the Cats are 12-3 at home. Georgetown and Creighton are the only Big East teams to defeat this Nova team at home. Marquette is looking to hold onto the 2nd seed in the Big East standings as Creighton is right there with them currently. The nation’s leading scorer, Nova’s Eric Dixon, will need to be a bigger part of the offense than he was in Nova’s last game. Dixon was just 3-13 from the field in their loss to UConn.

Those losses came after knocking off #9 St. John’s which had given the Cats are true shot at getting into the Tournament. For Marquette, they are squarely in the tournament and are not looking to improve their seeding. That quest continues here on the road where they will have their hands full with an upset-minded Villanova team. That all said, we like the Golden Eagles to get the job done here on the road.
