The championship match of the Berlin Ladies Open will pit two giant-killing stars against each other as Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic takes on Wang Xinyu of China for all the marble on Sunday.

Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon Open champion, shocked the tennis world on Saturday after stunning the world’s No.1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-4. The Czech dug deep from her bag of tricks to get the better of Sabalenka, conceding only one breakpoint out of 9 service games played. Capturing four breakpoints also helped Vondrousova create enough separation to pull away from a seemingly baffled Sabalenka.

Wang also made the headlines, especially back home in China, after taking her fairy tale run to the final of one of the most prestigious grass court tourneys, the Berlin Ladies Open. Wang punched her ticket to the championship match with a resounding 6-4 6-1 win over Liudmila Samsonova of Russia. The Chinese only connected 46 percent of their first serves but managed to put on a dominant show by collecting 22 points off the first serves and 16 off the second. Wang also broke Samsonova’s spirit by seizing four breakpoint conversions on 16 return points.
