Maria Sakkari of Greece will get her North American hard-court campaign going on Monday as she squares off with Katie Boulter of Great Britain in the first round of the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open.
Sakkari hopes to turn her season around in the final phase of the WTA season after compiling a subpar 16-20 record through the first seven months of the year. The Greek, who once rose to the world’s No.3 in 2022, will try to generate some traction over the coming weeks with the hope of a better showing at the 2025 US Open Championship, which will start late August.
Boulter also looks to steer her campaign in the right direction after winning only one title so far this year. The former Britain’s No.1 returns to the hard court where she boasts a career 59.9 percent win rate in 287 matches played. Boulter equaled her best Grand Slam finish at the 2023 US Open, where the Brit picked up two wins before falling to American Peyton Stearns in the third round.
