While some WTA players remain in China this week, for others it's off to Japan, where the Kinoshita Group Japan Open will be taking place. On Monday, there's an interesting first-round match between Maria Sakkari and Ashlyn Krueger. This match is particularly interesting because the pair played against each other in Wuhan last week. On that occasion, it was a hotly contested match, with both players showing plenty of fight, before Sakkari got the job done in three sets.
The early betting ahead of this one suggest that those in attendance in Osaka will likely witness another tight match, but after beating her American opponent last week, should the Greek player be more favored than she currently is in the betting? When the two met in Wuhan a week ago, it was a really good match, one that was definitely worth watching from a neutral point of view. Maria Sakkari eventually emerged victorious in three sets, showing her quality to win the final set by seven games to five. That win gives the Greek player a nice mental edge as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not quite sure that the early market is considering this enough.
