Magdalena Frech of Poland will try to punch her ticket to the fourth round on Sunday against Zheng Qinwen of China in the round of 32 at the 2025 Italian Open.
Frech rolled into the third round with a 7-5 6-4 over former Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka 7-5 6-4. Frech, who reached the third round of the Madrid Open, scored 39 points off the 49 serves she connected on her first try. The Pole also converted on 6 of 11 break point opportunities, on top of 5 aces.
Zheng also advanced to the next round with a 6-1 6-4 win over Olga Danilovic. After winning China’s first Olympic Gold in tennis at Roland Garros last year, Zheng’s clay-court has been rocky so far, as she could only manage a quarterfinal finish in Charleston before losing in her debut match in Madrid against Anastasia Potapova of Russia 6-4 6-4.
