Gael Monfils of France will take on Mackenzie McDonald of the United States in the first round of the 2025 HSBC Championship in Queen’s Club in London, England.
Monfils is back on grass court after winning five games on the surface last year. The ATP veteran has a 46-34 record on grass and once reached the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Open in 2018. The Frenchman also came up two wins short of winning his first grass-court title last year after staging a prolific run to the semis of the 2025 Mallorca Championships.
Mackenzie McDonald qualified for the HSBC Championship at Queens after beating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-2 7-6(6) and Henry Searle 6-4 6-2 in the qualification phase. The 30-year-old McDonald is a career 40-30 on grass and reached the semifinals of the Rothesay International in 2023, where he upset No. 1 seed Taylor Fritz 7-6(3), 7-6(8).
