The WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing officially launched its 2025 edition on Thursday! And now it's time to watch the round of 32, featuring a match between 26-year-old Russian Liudmila Samsonova and 22-year-old French player Lois Boisson as they battle it out for a place in the round of 16.
Liudmila Samsonova, seeded 19th, is making her debut in this tournament. After being eliminated very early last year in the round of 32, the Russian is likely to have high ambitions this year. Indeed, she is particularly familiar with this tournament, having been a finalist in the 2023 season against Poland's Iga Swiatek. With a less-than-encouraging record on hard courts in recent weeks, with only three wins to her name and an elimination in the second round of the US Open, she will be keen to make a successful debut in front of the Chinese crowd.
Lois Boisson, meanwhile, is enjoying the best season of her career and is gradually making a name for herself among the greats. A semifinalist at the French Open after defeating Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva, then winning her first title in Hamburg on July 20, the Frenchwoman is looking to gain valuable experience on hard courts as well.
