The No. 9 LSU Tigers will open the 2025 college football season on the road in Week One in South Carolina, where they will play the No. 4 Clemson Tigers. This SEC-ACC/Top Ten battle will get underway at 7:30 p.m. EST, Saturday, Aug. 30, in Memorial Stadium in Clemson, SC.
Expectations are high for LSU this season, which is not uncommon. Brian Kelly was supposed to take the team back to the elite ranks when he joined three years ago, but it hasn’t happened yet. While the Tigers could certainly gel and become a contender this season, it may be asking a bit much of these Tigers right out of the gate. Kelly has just seven returning starters, four on offense and three on defense. Now, he has the most important piece back on offense in QB Garrett Nussmeier, but his offensive line will have to be rebuilt, as well as the defense, especially the front seven. Clemson, however, will likely be better prepared to play a formidable opponent in Week One. Why? Because Dabo Swinney has eight returners back on offense and eight on defense. With just three guys to replace on each unit, there is a stronger chance they’ll gel quicker and be more successful right out of the gate.
